Sleat and Strath march strongly through cup rounds

posted 11 May 2011, 04:14 by Ben MacKinnon
A busy cup schedule lead Sleat and Strath to play 5 games in 15 days, but there were no signs of squad fatigue as they scored a total of 33 goals!

The closest match they had was the Highland Amateur game in Plockton. Sleat were coasting at half time, with goals from Gordy, Ben and Darren giving them a 3-0 lead at the break. But Plockton came out fighting in the second half and managed to tie the game up at 3-3 before giving away a penalty that Gordy slotted home. But poor play from S.a.S allowed Plockton to level once more, before James Graham finished beautifully from the edge of the box five minutes from time. Final score 5-4.

Probably the most surprising result came last night against Kyleakin in the GF MacRae Semi final. Kyleakin never seemed to turn up and Sleat and Strath put 6 by them in the opening 30 minutes! By half time it was 7, and even though they let up a bit in the second half, the game finished 9-1. Gordy and Ben both picked up hat tricks. The result means Sleat and Strath meet Portree in the Final

The other results were:
GF MacRae Quater Final: Sleat & Strath 10 - 1 Glenelg
GF MacRae Round 1 : Portree Juniors 1 - 6 Sleat & Strath
Ross Cup Round 1: Sleat & Strath 3 - 1 Dunvegan
