Second half dominance provides victory

posted 27 Aug 2012, 13:48 by Sleat and Strath AFC

With 3 games to go, Sleat & Strath knew that each one is a "must win" starting with their trip up to Portree on Saturday (25th).

It was a great game, with Sleat & Strath taking the early lead through a typical finish from Gordy McCarroll. The Portree goalkeeper pulled off a string of saves to keep his team in the match, and Portree got their reward when Sandy MacAskill gave away a penalty allowing them to equalise from the spot. However, Gordy was again on hand to put the visitors back in front before half time.

Sleat & Strath came back out at half time fired up and dominated the second half. The Portree keeper was the only thing stopping the score line from running away, but he couldn't keep everything out. Gordy picked up a second half brace to extend his lead as top scorer, and another from Ian MacPhearson made the final score 5 - 1.

With another great team performance under their belts, Sleat & Strath know that they have what it takes to win the title again this year, though with Gordy's suspension starting this week, they will have to do so without his goal scoring prowess in the final two games. Goalkeeper John Davie will return for the final game of the season, which will give the manager the option to return James Munley to a midfielder role, if he feels it necessary.
