Difficult Week

posted 29 Jun 2012, 02:59 by Ben MacKinnon

Sleat & Strath were faced with a difficult week starting Saturday 23rd of June. 3 tough games were to be played over the following 8 days, and the manager somehow had to find time to get married in between. First up was a home game to league leaders and  south end rivals Kyleakin. It resulted in the first defeat for the champions in 45 league games, by a score of 3 - 2. With a  thinned squad compared to last season, it was only a matter of time before the winning streak was ended. This lead to Kyleakin opening up a 7 point gap, though Sleat & Strath had 2 games in hand.

One of those games was against a 2nd place Portree, and it was played in Kinloch on the Tuesday evening. Sleat & Strath picked themselves up after the disappointing narrow defeat to Kyleakin, and came away with a 5 - 2 win over Portree, jumping their opponents in the table and closing the gap at the top back to 4 points. Scott Mackinnon was the Managers "man of the match" picking up 2 goals in his "best performance for Sleat so far."

Still to come this Saturday (30th) is the Quarter Final of the Highland Amateur Cup against Muir of Ord. The game is to be played in Kyleakin with a 3pm kick off. Sleat & Strath beat Iochdar Saints in the last round on penalties, and Muir of Ord beat Golspie Stafford (who put Sleat & Strath out last season) also on penalties. This is how the two clubs progressed to reach the Quarter Finals:
