A winning start

Sleat & Strath AFC got the Co-operative League campaign off to a winning start away in Gairloch on Saturday in the days early kick off. The team played well and would have enjoyed the long trip home after running out 3 - 0 winners on the day.

Last season's top scorer Gordon MacCarroll hit the ground running with two fine goals, and a third from James Robertson secured the points. Sleat & Strath could have been up by a few early in the game, as they dominated the first 25 minutes, but failed to convert their chances.

The squad played in the managers favoured 3-2-2-3 formation (seen below), allowing them to be a bit more flexible between attack and defence. Gordon was named managers Man-of-the-Match, but every player was on good form.

Unfortunately, Martin MacKinnon was injured after appearing as a sub, and will be out for at least the next month. Sandy MacAskill will also be missing next week as Sleat & Strath will play host to Kyle on Saturday, with a 3pm kick off scheduled. Kyle travelled to Plockton at the weekend and came away with a good 2 - 0 victory.

Elsewhere around the league, Dunvegan were 6 - 1 victors in Glenelg, Kyleakin lost at home to Portree 6 - 2 and Portree Juniors thumped Staffin 8 - 0, which sees them sitting top of the table after the first round of fixtures.
